Zizi je t’aime !

Speed. Everything is there in the music hall. Three accessories can create a whole world. So to make a big hat, take a pile of feathers. Perch it on top of a tall girl, all black and naked, and when she comes onstage, that alone can be a theatrical moment. … You also have to have a feeling for the outrageous and for post cards. Even more than the theater, music hall is the flip side of life. Poor materials seem rich and vice versa. To forget the usual thing… it’s not easy.

Yves Saint Laurent to Edmonde Charles-Roux, Les lettres françaises, March 8, 1972.
