Meeting Betty Catroux

Yves Saint Laurent met his female double, Betty Catroux, at the Parisian nightclub Chez Régine. At the time, Catroux was working as a model at Chanel.

We were both very skinny, very pale, both platinum blonds with an androgynous side. We both had a taste for the louche. I was his double.

She and Saint Laurent shared a certain sense of melancholy, which they drowned in nightly revelries. Along with Loulou de la Falaise, Catroux was one of Saint Laurent’s closest friends. She embodied the couturier’s feminine ideal and the androgynous woman better than anyone else.
