To Move to Paris

In September 1954, Yves Saint Laurent moved to a small room at 209 boulevard Pereire in Paris and began studying at the Chambre syndicale de la couture.

In November 1954, he again participated in the Secrétariat international de la laine competition, winning both first and third prizes in the dress category out of six thousand anonymous entries. The design that earned first prize, a black crepe cocktail dress, was made in Hubert de Givenchy’s ateliers. Karl Lagerfeld, then 21 years old, won first prize in the coat category.
