“Les Espagnoles et les Romantiques” Collection

In his Spring-Summer 1967 collection, Yves Saint Laurent paid tribute to Bambara art, named after the largest ethnic group in Mali. Ten years later, he created a collection inspired by Spain.

Instead of trying to reproduce outfits from the past, the couturier sought inspiration in his imagined vision of Spain. Saint Laurent created new sartorial combinations with his gypsy skirts and strikingly modern velvet corselets.
